First Advent Prayer

A Prayer for the first Sunday of Advent ~

God of wonders,
We arrive at this first Sunday of Advent
already bombarded with glitter and lights,
festive specials, seasonal music, and 
sales, sales, sales!
Help us to slow down
And wait on you. 
Help us prepare a way for you
in the wilderness
in the out-of-the-way places
in the forgotten places
in the quiet places.
Away from the commercialism
materialism, & consumerism
of our fuel-driven empire.
May we see your radiant glory, 
and may all flesh, all creatures,
all of creation
take it in.
